An Overview Of The Astronomy Constellations

Our sky is divided into eighty- eight areas and the constellations are part of it. Constellations are a group of stars that form a pattern when linked together. There are so many constellations and some of the popular constellations are the Big Dipper, Orion, Leo and the likes.

Finding constellations in the sky is very fun. If you are wondering on how to find one, here are some tips that you can use. First, you need to know the right direction if you want to see what you are really looking for. A compass is the best equipment for detecting which is south, east, north or west.

If you don't have a compass, just locate where the sun sets and rises. The sun always rises in the east and it sets in the west. If you are standing in a direction where the sun rise is on your right side and the sunset is on your left, north is to the front and south is to your back. Knowing the proper direction is very important in order to locate the constellation easily.

Before you start hunting for a constellation, give your eyes a time to adapt to the night atmosphere. Usually our eyes adapt in about fifteen minutes. By doing this, you are giving your eyes the chance to cope with the dark light to be able to properly view the dark sky.

There are times that the moon will shine at its peak especially during the full moon. You can find this very challenging because there is a possibility that you will have a hard time finding constellations. Don't fret because you can either take the challenge or take the opportunity to study the moon.

Another light problem that you may encounter is man-made lights. The streetlights should be avoided. You should locate a place that is by far the darkest in order to appreciate the lights of the sky and to view the constellations properly and easily. If you can’t avoid the lights of the streetlight, you can get cardboard to cover the light that may hinder your viewing.

As you begin finding different constellations, you can make a constellation journal wherein you can write all the information that you will see on the sky. It may also serve as your guide to be able to find the constellations very easy without any hassles.
